EIFL support for project to strengthen no-fee open access publishing in Africa

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana has initiated a project that aims to enhance the sustainability, quality and functionality of its official journal, the Journal of Science and Technology.

A Diamond open access journal, the Journal of Science and Technology (JUST),  mainly publishes articles resulting from original research in different aspects of science (physical, biological and chemical), the humanities and technology.

The project will upgrade the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) management and publishing platform (including obtaining plugins such as Google Scholar Indexing, Reviewer Credits, iThenticate and Crossref). Through training sessions and practical hands-on workshops, the project will ensure that editors, reviewers, authors and administrative staff can use the upgraded platform effectively. This will increase efficiency in editorial workflows and reduce delays in publishing.

The project is one of 33  that have received grant support through a three-year project to strengthen no-fee open access publishing in Africa implemented by EIFL, AJOL (African Journals Online) and WACREN (the West and Central African Research and Education Network), with funding from Wellcome.

Activities

  • Upgrading and updating the journal’s OJS management and publishing platform
  • Providing training and practical hands-on workshops for editorial staff and other OJS users
