EIFL has been working in Uganda since 2011. We engaged with the development of the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL), and through this partnership, libraries in Uganda are providing access to a wide range of scholarly e-resources. EIFL agreements with publishers also allow authors in Uganda to publish in open access in hybrid or fully open access journals at waived or discounted Article Processing Charges (APCs).
EIFL supported national and institutional open access awareness raising and advocacy workshops that have resulted in the launch of open access publishing platforms and the creation of a number of open access repositories in the country. Collaborative efforts of universities and national policy makers are under way to make all peer-reviewed research output of the country openly available, a number of universities have adopted open access policies.
We have advocated for revisions to the national copyright law to enable libraries to better meet the needs of their users. We are also currently supporting national implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty for persons with print disabilities.
EIFL's engagement with public libraries resulted in innovative pilot projects that are helping libraries meet the information needs of their communities. We are continuing to build the capacity of librarians to enable them to introduce technology-based services for their users.
