EIFL has been working in China since 2003, collaborating with the Library Network of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Through this partnership, we have provided knowledge sharing and capacity building opportunities for libraries in China. EIFL agreements with publishers also allow authors in China to publish in open access in hybrid or fully open access journals at discounted Article Processing Charges (APCs).
EIFL has also supported national open access awareness raising and advocacy workshops that have resulted in establishment of a number of open access repositories and open access journals. Through our work, the first open access research funder mandates in the country were adopted, by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), opening their research output to the world.
We have also provided a support service for librarians to raise awareness about library copyright issues, and to assist with copyright questions.
