EIFL has been working in Nepal since 2008. We supported the creation of the Nepal Library and Information Consortium (NeLIC), and through this partnership libraries in Nepal have gained access to a wide range of scholarly e-resources. EIFL agreements with publishers also allow authors in Nepal to publish in open access in hybrid or fully open access journals at waived or discounted Article Processing Charges (APCs). In addition, they benefit from EIFL programmes on open access, copyright and innovation in public libraries.
EIFL has supported open access awareness raising and advocacy workshops which resulted in the launch of a national open access repository in Nepal.
We have supported copyright law reform, and advocacy for ratification by Nepal of the Marrakesh Treaty for persons with print disabilities that led to the formation of a ‘Right to Read’ campaign by civil society stakeholders.
EIFL's engagement with public libraries in Nepal resulted in an innovative pilot project to help libraries meet the information needs of their communities.
