Ugandan public librarians will speak about the impact of ICT-based services in their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public librarians who have completed training-of-trainers programmes organized by the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) and partners in Kenya, Namibia, Uganda and Zambia are invited to attend this informal knowledge sharing event - a ‘T-break’, where T stands for trainers - on the topic, ‘The impact of ICT services in public libraries during the pandemic'.

The T-break will be led by a team from the National Library of Uganda. Three public librarians - Rebecca Awaayo of Lira City Public Library (Northern Uganda), Mercy Akia of Soroti City Public Library (Eastern Uganda), and Peter Balaba of Nakaseke Telecenter (Central Uganda) – will showcase ICT training and other programmes offered by their libraries, and discuss the impact of these programmes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is the fifth in a series of virtual ‘T-breaks’ organized for the public library trainers by EIFL-PLIP and partners in Africa. The aim is to refresh the trainers’ knowledge, share practical experiences and to build a local and cross-border support network of public library trainers. Since 2017, EIFL has trained 62 public librarians in KenyaNamibiaUganda and Zambia to become trainers, and they have cascaded the training to over 650 librarians in their countries.
