Growing numbers of public libraries are incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) activities in their services and programmes.
STEAM is a learning approach that stimulates curiosity and creativity, and builds skills that are useful for education, work and day-to-day life, like problem solving, critical thinking, communications and collaboration, while simultaneously developing learners' knowledge of STEAM subjects.
The 19th EIFL Public Library Innovation Award call aims to recognize outstanding and engaging public and community library STEAM activities.
The library STEAM activities can involve people of different ages and abilities, and can target specific groups, for example women, farmworkers, jobseekers, children, youth or seniors, or any combinations of people, for example families or community groups. They can be offered by the library and its partners in-person in the library or in other learning environments, and can use any digital devices or combination of devices.
