There are vast stores of useful information for farmers on the internet, about new farming methods; grants and subsidies; care of livestock, market prices, the weather, and more. Farmers in developing countries need information, but often lack computer and internet access, e-literacy skills or reading and writing skills. This article examines innovative public library services for farmers initiated with support from the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP). It highlights the importance of training librarians to build farmers' computer and e-literacy skills, and to support them in using digital technology.
