ABOUT THE RESOURCE
This innovative service helped farmers improve their income and revitalized four village libraries which had fallen into disuse and disrepair as a result of war and economic recession. Led by Public Library Radislav Nikčević in Jagodina, the service works through four village libraries in central Serbia. It combines free ICT access and training, a web portal and online market, books and articles about agriculture, and public lectures. In less than a year (2010/11) librarians recorded sharp increases in library visits by farmers, and farmers said the service helped them increase their yields and improve their incomes.
The service was initiates with support from the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) in May 2010. This two-page case study is based on a report received from the library in May 2011.
