This PowerPoint presentation is designed to help public librarians to teach youth and adults to understand the basics of graphic design, to learn how to navigate the online design tool Canva, and to create simple design projects, such as logos, social media posts or flyers. The presentation is based on Canva Design School’s open learning resources.

Compiled by Ugne Lipeikaite, EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme Impact Manager, the presentation includes notes for trainers and is divided into four sections:

• Icebreaker Activity: Engage participants and set the tone for an interactive session.
• Theory of graphic design and basic design principles:  Colours, typography, layout and white space.
• Introduction to Canva: Create a Canva account; overview of basic functionalities of the platform.
• Practical activities: Three hands-on activities to reinforce learning and try out new skills. 

The training is designed to be completed in about 90 minutes, but it can be adjusted for shorter or longer periods as needed. Librarians can use the slides as they are or adapt them for different age groups or skills levels.
