EIFL’s Copyright and Libraries Programme Manager, Teresa Hackett, will attend two events in Geneva: a public lecture by renowned international scholar, Professor Maggie Chon, and the 48th session of WIPO’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR).

The lecture by Professor Chon, Faculty Director at the Technology, Innovation Law and Ethics Institute (TILE) at Seattle University School of Law is titled, ‘Can we re-imagine global intellectual property (IP) frameworks to make cutting-edge scientific knowledge available and barrier-free to a majority of the world’s population’. The lecture is organized by the Geneva Centre on Knowledge Governance and it takes place on 18 May.

EIFL will also attend WIPO’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR/48) that meets from 18 - 22 May. The Committee will consider important proposals by member states on limitations and exceptions; the authors of a new WIPO Toolkit on Access to Copyrighted Works in the Collections of Cultural Heritage Institutions: Libraries, Archives and Museums will present the toolkit (a companion to the 2024 WIPO Toolkit on Preservation), and the Access to Knowledge Coalition (EIFL is a founding member) will host a side event on ‘The pressing need for an instrument on Exceptions and Limitations’.
