J-ISIS is an open source software used for creating, updating and searching textual databases utilising a web interface. It is Unicode based, an advantage for users requiring extended characters or different alphabets. It has been developed by UNESCO as a multiplatform modular, easily maintainable and extensible FOSS ISIS suite that would provide the same successful concepts and functionalities as the existing ISIS suite (CDS-ISIS, Win-ISIS etc) whilst removing the restrictions. The indexing functionality is provided by Lucene. You can import any ISO or MARC compatible databases.

In this webinar a very thorough, informative and clear presentation is provided by Egbert De Smet from the Universiteit Antwerpen in Belgium about J-ISIS. Egbert introduces viewers to the ISIS 'family' and how J-ISIS fits into it as one of the products from the UNESCO stable. He takes participants step by step through the key processes, from download to database creation, database import, and the creation and editing of indexes and worksheets. He also gives a quick look into the future with the development of Web-JISIS.
