Fifteen public librarians from 12 countries in Africa will travel to Indonesia and Malaysia as part of the Initiative for Young African Library Innovators 2018 (IYALI 2018).
IYALI aims to expose emerging public library innovators in Africa to experiences and ideas from other developing and transition economy countries. It is an initiative of the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP), in collaboration with the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).
The IYALI programme in Indonesia and Malaysia is as follows:
20-24 August: The IYALI group will attend a workshop in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, at which they will hear presentations and share experiences with librarians from Indonesia who have successfully piloted innovative public library services. The programme includes visits to public and community libraries in and around Yogyakarta.
25-29 August: The IYALI group will take part in the IFLA World Library and Information Congress 2018 (IFLA WLIC 2018), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In addition to attending congress sessions and workshops, IYALI 2018 participants will present a poster on New Services and Community Outreach in African Public Libraries.
