Case study by Richard Bruce Lamptey, Librarian at the College of Science Library, KNUST, and EIFL Country Coordinator in Ghana, and Romy Beard, EIFL Licensing Programme Manager, about how authors in Ghana are engaging with EIFL’s open access agreements, and what progress has been made in terms of increasing open access publishing output.

The study finds that Ghanaian authors generally see open access as a good route to publish because of the increased visibility and higher impact of openly published articles. EIFL’s list of journals eligible for waivers or discounts is well-used - with over 1,200 downloads from the EIFL website since January 2021. The article concludes by describing hurdles for authors wishing to take advantage of the discounts or waivers, and makes recommendations about how these hurdles can be overcome.
