Last year our libraries couldn’t subscribe to new databases and we had to cancel subscriptions due to financial problems. However, thanks to the EIFL Licensing programme, our libraries got access to nine databases free of charge or at highly discounted rates. This has really helped us a lot and has helped our researchers to do important research referring to these databases.

Access to e-resources is essential for research and education. Although more journal articles are available in open access, many are still behind the paywall. High subscription costs remain an issue for libraries and their users in developing and transition countries. At the same time, high Article Processing Charges prohibit authors from publishing in open access.
